SKILLS

My professional competencies & learning journey

Throughout my event management education and practical experiences, I have developed six core professional competencies that prepare me for a career in concert management and artist booking. Each skill below is supported by specific examples and clear connections to both my learning goals and industry requirements. These skills were developed through:

- 25+ hours of hands-on venue operations experience

- 6 years of dance crew leadership

- Independent festival organization (K-JP Festival, 2020 & 2022)

- Social media marketing

- Academic coursework in event management theories

Skill 1: Canva/Visual design & marketing communication

Skill level: Advanced (3+ years experience)

Primary application: Event promotion, brand identity, digital marketing

I create professional event marketing materials using Canva, from promotional posters to social media campaigns. Strong visual design drives ticket sales and builds brand recognition - essential skills for concert promotion.

What I've created:

BELUN ORGANICS LTD (15+ graphics) - Modernized a traditional product's branding for younger audiences through Instagram content, product photography, and lifestyle imagery.

"ILLUSION" dance crew (6 years) - Developed team logo, performance materials, and social media presence. Evolved from basic designs to professional-level work comparable to established crews.

Technical skills mastered

  • Visual hierarchy and composition
  • Color theory and brand consistency
  • Typography and platform optimization
  • Social media format design (Instagram, Facebook, print)

Career connection: Concert managers need compelling visual marketing to attract audiences and communicate artist brands. My portfolio demonstrates ability to create professional promotional materials that drive engagement.

Skill 2: Concept design & creative development

Experience: Proven track record

I have developed innovative event concept that engage target audiences and introduce new cultural trends. Successful events require original ideas grounded in practical feasibility.

K-JP Festival:

The concept (2020) - I identified that K-pop was exploding globally but had zero presence in my hometown. I created the first K-pop dance festival in Dobrich, combining competition format with cultural education.

Challenge: Audience unfamiliarity with K-pop
Solution: Pre-event social media education explaining the culture
Result: 80+ attendees (vs. expected 50)

Improvement (2022): Based on 2020 learnings, I refined the concept:

  • Found professional sound tech (vs. volunteer in 2020)
  • Started marketing 6 weeks earlier (vs. 3 weeks)
  • Developed clear judging criteria
  • Improved schedule management with buffer time

Result: 80+ attendees, one technical issue, more positive feedback

Impact: Introduced entirely new cultural element to community, inspired Youth Center to embrace unconventional programming, created lasting community among K-pop fans.

Career connection: Concert management requires conceptualizing tours, festival programming, and special events that create memorable experiences beyond just music. K-JP Festival proves I can identify audience needs, develop unique concepts, and execute successfully.

Skill 3: Project management

I manage events from initial concept through execution and evaluation, coordinating timelines, budgets, stakeholders, and teams. Strong project management ensures events run smoothly despite inevitable challenges.

K-JP Festival 2022: Project breakdown

Planning (4 months)

  • Budget: €500 (Youth Center + my crewmates' and my personal funds)
  • Timeline: September 2019/2021 - February 2020/2022,
  • Stakeholders: Youth Center Dobrich, 10 dance crews, volunteers, sponsors, judges
  • Risk management: Identified technical failures, crew cancellations, low attendance

Key project decisions

  • Found professional sound tech with the help of Youth Center Dobrich to prevent 2020 technical issues
  • Overbooked crews slightly to handle cancellations
  • Started marketing 6 weeks early based on 2020 learnings

Challenges & solutions

  • Two crews cancelled -> Filled slots immediately with backup options from close by cities

Results

  • 80+ attendees (increase from 2020)
  • Event only 10-15 minutes behind schedule
  • Did not pass the budget limit
  • Zero major technical issues
  • More positive feedback

ILLUSION: 6-year management

Managing ILLUSION required long-term sustainability skills:

  • Scheduling: Coordinating 7-12 people consistently for 6 years
  • Conflict management: Addressing disagreements about roles, choreography, commitment
  • Delegation: Learned to empower others rather than doing everything myself

Career connection: Concert managers coordinate complex tours, festivals, and venue programming with larger budgets and more stakeholders. My experience managing K-JP Festival and ILLUSION demonstrates core project management competencies needed professionally.

Skill 4: Social media marketing

I create engaging social media content that builds brand presence and drives audience engagement. Modern events require strong digital marketing - online promotion directly impacts ticket sales and community building.

Key projects:

BELUN ORGANICS LTD

- Created 15+ Instagram posts and story templates

Skill 5: Leadership & team management

Experience: 6 years | 7 to 12-person team

I lead teams effectively through motivation, clear communication, conflict resolution, and delegation. Concert management requires coordinating diverse teams under pressure - leadership skills are fundamental to operational success.

ILLUSION dance crew leadership (2019-2025)

Led 12 dancers consistently for 6 years

Coordinated 20+ performances and rehearsal schedules

Managed team conflicts and motivation

Leadership challenges & solutions

Challenge: Maintaining 6-year engagement
Solution: Monthly team socials beyond rehearsals, individual goal-setting, rotating leadership opportunities, celebrating small wins consistently.

Challenge: Role assignment conflicts
Solution: Individual conversations to understand motivations, created solutions where multiple members got spotlight moments in different sections.

Challenge: Balancing multiple responsibilities
Solution: Delegated operational tasks to interested members, used shared calendars and task lists, set personal boundaries for wellbeing.

K-JP festival team coordination

Successfully coordinated multiple stakeholder groups:

Youth Center staff (venue partner)

Judges and sponsors

  • Maintained clear communication channels with all parties, managed expectations, and facilitated smooth collaboration.

Skill 6: Event operations & venue management

Experience: 25+ Career hours | Professional venues

Through hands-on experience at 013 Poppodium and Poppodium Phoenix, I developed practical understanding of professional venue operations and live event management. I've experienced front-of-house service, production support, crisis management, and maintaining quality standards in real-world environments.

013 Poppodium - large venue (15+ hours)

Professional bar service and ticket scanning for concerts (electronic, punk rock, indie)

Production support and artist hospitality

Observed large-scale operational workflows and departmental coordination

Experienced professional crisis management

Poppodium Phoenix - small venue (10+ hours)

Bar service and production assistance for intimate events (techno, reggae, jazz, rock)

Post-event cleanup and equipment maintenance

Learned how smaller venues require staff versatility and multi-role flexibility

Observed close-quarter artist interaction

Crisis management examples

Beer supply shortage
During peak service, our bar ran out of popular beer. Management quickly redistributed stock from other bars, communicated wait times to guests, and adjusted ordering priorities.

Lesson: Contingency planning and calm communication prevent escalation.

Ticket app failure
30 minutes before doors, the scanning system crashed. Management immediately implemented manual backup while technical team fixed the issue. Doors opened only 10 minutes late.

Lesson: Professional venues always have backup plans for technology failures.

Venue scale differences:

Large venues (013) require specialized roles and clear departmental structures

Small venues (Phoenix) demand staff flexibility and multi-tasking abilities

Both require identical attention to detail and professional standards

Professional service standards:

Different music genres attract different audience behaviors requiring adapted approaches

Maintaining quality during peak pressure separates professional from amateur operations

Every role contributes to overall guest experience

Career connection: Understanding venue operations is fundamental to concert management. These experiences taught me how professional venues function behind the scenes, how teams coordinate during live events, and how to maintain quality under pressure - practical knowledge that directly prepares me for managing artist bookings and concert operations.

Connection to learning goals: This skill is the primary focus of Learning Goal 1 - "Understanding professional event operations and crisis management." The 25+ documented career hours provided hands-on experience to observe industry standards and understand operational approaches.
